A little about me...
I’d like to introduce myself, my name is Fletcher Hamel and I am not an Expert on any particular brand, client, experience or topic of study, but what I am good at is listening, extrapolating and communicating what I’ve learned, and collaboratively creating a visual narrative that invites people to interact with and experience the brands, products, environments and institutions whose design I’ve had a hand in developing. I am a Leader - this is both a natural trait and continually honed skill set. By keeping myself entrenched in the daily challenges of the team, I am able to win their confidence while providing vision that helps us achieve our goals and objectives. I aspire to inspire and believe the quote below sums it up perfectly!
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more,
do more and become more, you are a leader.”
—John Quincy Adams
As a creative leader, I dedicate my energies to sustaining vibrant business relationships through continued use of traditional expected design elements, while exploring progressive new ideas and technologies to rekindle excitement and pique interests of prospective clients, employees, and the greater design & research community.
I earned a BA in industrial design from the University of Kansas in 2006 after dabbling in architectural engineering and music performance. Minors in business admin. & art history accompanied my main studies. Prior to graduation, I secured an internship with a fairly young design/build firm in Kansas City (DI) and went to work making myself irreplaceable. I steadily rose from junior designer to service a majority of our long-standing theatre clients and helped lead the creative way in developing our sport marketing arm by incorporating cutting edge
technologies into various brand activation spaces. These dynamic environments and the “experiential design” associated with them caused the team, company, and interested clientele to grow - making Dimensional Innovations the Midwest design leaders they are today.
After rising in the ranks of KC design powerhouse Dimensional Innovations to the position of Lead Designer (which means I wore several hats: designer, project manager, team leader, pseudo-engineer, production artists, etc.), I took a voluntary, extended personal leave of absence from the professional environment to get back to my roots: family, nature, and hard work. Masonry design and construction, conceptual and graphic consulting opportunities and some pro bono design work have occupied my creative bent, while allowing flexibility for more robust family experiences.
I reentered the 'professional' workforce about four years ago with the move to Salt Lake to join Infinite Scale and help the expand their permanent venue and exhibit design presence as a senior designer on staff. I've led the way on several projects including stadium signage systems for several well known universities and pro teams, conceptual designs for branded environmental activation for both teams and their corporate partners, and propelled the studio into more robust exhibit capabilities with the unveiling of the Hall of Champions as part of Texas A&M's renovation of Kyle Field. I brought a level of technical understanding both in terms of drawing detailing and A/V specification that became utilized throughout the studio. I leave them with now with arguably their largest workload and project pipeline to date.
I've since be employed as a department director over the entire business development and creative for the interior branding (retail, corporate, museum, sport) at a Salt Lake based design/build firm, Atmosphere Studios, and have been growing my private design practice.
I am also a founding member of the internationally known adventure race team, Journey Racing. I use my racing and outdoor adventures as a platform for growing my intangible leadership attributes: communication, conflict resolution, team building, and emotional IQ. I've begun competing in events lasting several days, covering hundreds of miles, on little to no sleep. This kind of thing pushes me physically, mentally, and emotionally, often times culminating in a spiritual bonding with my team.

I worked with Fletcher over an 8 month period on a major exhibit design and installation at Texas A&M University. Fletcher is a consummate professional, and excellent brand designer who provided mindful feedback on our exhibit graphics without slowing down the process. He lead the major fabricator and BPI through a very compressed schedule calmly and skillfully. Fletcher was a great asset to our team in that you could actually build everything that he designed! His spacial skills were excellent, and he could portray his ideas to clients in easy to understand ways. Great rendering abilities as well - both by hand and digitally. Fletcher is a great designer with fresh ideas. He listens well to his client’s needs and provides a wide range of options. He can push a client’s viewpoint in a respectful and professional manner to get the best result for all involved. His approach creates rapport and trust. He is timely to respond to requests and his customer services skills are top notch. I enjoy working with him. |
In the time that I have been privileged to work with Fletcher, I can honestly say that I have never been more proud of the work we've done, nor have I been pushed creatively as much. Fletcher has the rare ability to come up with ideas that make everyone involved in the project do their best work. Fletcher was a great asset to the design team as we worked with a client to develop the design for an IMAX lobby space. His ability to help visualize the end product led us to a solution that was built with great care, and attention to detail. The end result is fabulous! |
